Purchased as a replacement for Dell Inspiron 6400 cord. This cord quit working after 3 days!!! My wife was using her computer and all of a sudden she lost power and there was a flash of light from the power cord!! Will stick with the more expensive Dell replacement in the future.

It’s been said here and I’ll say it again: This item powers the laptop, and prevents the battery from draining any more, but it does not charge the battery. At all.
Whether this is Dell’s doing to get you to buy from them or this charger not being sufficient is impossible to determine, but it does not do everything it says it does for Dell laptops.
Regardless, in my case, I just needed a charger to keep the laptop running until I buy a new one next year. I don’t use it on battery since it’s so heavy (E1505) and I injured my back at work, so it does what I need it to do, which is allow my laptop to be a desktop. It wasn’t worth the hassle of trying to get them to send me 5 or 6 chargers that wont charge the battery since Dell probably designed it that way, so if you need a battery charger/AC adapter, save up the extra money and buy a real one from Dell.
It should be noted to anyone and everyone, however, that this item does not do everything that it claims to do or was designed to do, and for that, 3 stars are gone. I’d make it one, but it does in fact let you use the laptop without a battery, so it deserves from credit for that.

I ordered this adapter because it said “heavy duty”, however, it only provided power to the laptop. It DID NOT CHARGE the battery. I tried an adapter from my brother’s dell XPS, and his adapter charged the battery. Buy it if you wish, but it may not charge your battery.

The adapter is only meant if you want/need power for your laptop without charging of your battery. i.e. you will never get to use your laptop unless it is plugged into a socket. sucks and i would return mine if i was still within the date.

Please be careful gentlemen, this is a very dangerous make(made in China)
I bought this couple of months back, it was troubling me for the last 3 days – it wont work if i keep it down in the floor, it will if i turn it upside down(this means there could have been some loose wires inside)
And yesterday there was smoke and sparks from the wire(where the laptop side wire starts from the adapter box) I quickly pulled off the surge protector from the wall.
Thank god nothing happened to my dell E1405 or the surge protector on which i had plugged this into.
PLEASE DON’T BUY THIS PRODUCT, IT BURNS. YOU MIGHT GET HURT.
