Radiopaq’s Sound Jacket improves nano sound quality, according to this handy chart

Posted by bundeg magz Comments (0)

Accessories aimed at the iPod nano 4G crowd are always a curious affair. Isn’t the whole point to have your tunes on-the-go, with a minimal of fuss? And aren’t costly (and bulky) add-ons the definition of “fuss?” We seriously doubted there was much of a market for the portable speaker attachment we saw a few weeks back, and now it’s Radiopaq’s turn to get us scratchin’ our heads. The iPod Sound Jacket claims to do away with “the distortion that can sometimes result from a static EQ setting” and reveal the “hidden detail in the music that is lost during MP3 compression.” In other words, it seems to be a graphic equalizer. One that you have no control over, to boot. Sound familiar ? But then again, according to the product literature the device boosts sound quality “up to 60 percent.” If only it were able to boost our self esteem by, say, 40 percent or more. Now that would be well worth the

Has New York Said ‘Au Revoir’ to All That French Cuisine?

Posted by bundeg magz Comments (0)

Now that it’s been out for a week, you may have read a bit from Michael Steinberger’s Au Revoir to All That: Food, Wine, and the End of France , which explores the decline of French cuisine. A passage reprinted on Slate (Steinberger is the site’s wine columnist) describes the Michelin guide’s loss of authority , and another details the rise of McDonald’s in a country formerly known to appreciate leisurely lunches. The book doesn’t really delve into New York dining much, but since so much in it reminds us of Stateside trends, we asked Steinberger for his thoughts

Clear shuffles through its last upstanding citizen, tells the rest to fall in line

Posted by bundeg magz Comments (0)

Let’s face it: no one digs long security lines at airports. But if you reckoned a healthy amount of folks would be willing to pay $128 per year in order to bypass said lines at only a few airports in the world, you’d be wrong

A Tale of Two Blogs: Guest of a Guest and Last Night’s Party

Posted by bundeg magz Comments (0)

Rachelle Hruska and Merlin Bronques Sorry this morning’s first post is a little late! We were just working up the stamina to ponder that Sunday Styles profile of Guest of a Guest, the nightlife and events blog that glamorizes the young socialite set and the models-and-bottles clubs.

Autonet Mobile in-car WiFi router goes national with Amazon availability

Posted by bundeg magz Comments (0)

So, what does a company do when the two major outfits hired on to install its wares go belly-up? Why, put the power in the hands of the people, of course! After spending entirely too much time with Chrysler and General Motors, Autonet Mobile has decided to give consumers another option for having an in-car WiFi router installed: Amazon. Starting now, those interested in shoving a hotspot in their vehicle can purchase the router for $299.99 after rebate and handle the install themselves, but none of this makes that $29 monthly charge any easier to swallow.

KFC Is Sued for Giveaway Debacle, Makes Nifty T-Shirts

Posted by bundeg magz Comments (0)

A complete and total idiot Los Angeles man is suing KFC for that grilled-chicken fustercluck, claiming that because of their free giveaway, he and his fellow freeloaders incurred “travel costs, paper and printing costs, postage, the money they spent on other food items at KFC on visits when they had intended to redeem the Coupon … and the loss of the value of the promised Meal.” Oh, KFC

MIT scientists reverse engineer the ear for ultra-broadband, low power RF chip

Posted by bundeg magz Comments (0)

Researchers at MIT have developed an ultra-broadband radio chip that’s faster than any existing RF spectrum analyzer, while consuming 100 times less power. The RF Cochlea mimics the neural signal processing of the human cochlea, which uses fluid mechanics, piezoelectrics and neural signal processing to convert sound waves into electrical signals which travel to the brain

Video: Hands-on with SPRXmobile’s Layar augmented reality browser for Android

Posted by bundeg magz Comments (0)

We had a chance to go hands-on with Layar, the new augmented reality browser from SPRXmobile. Launched yesterday on Android Market in The Netherlands, we were curious to see how the software, that looked damn-impressive in the promo video , would function in actual use, in this case, from the living room of SPRXmobile’s Maarten Lens-FitzGerald just outside of Amsterdam. Our take

Edge Tech announces cheaper 128GB USB flash drive, still not very cheap

Posted by bundeg magz Comments (0)

Kingston got all the bragging rights by rolling out the first 128GB USB flash drive but, with that business now out of the way, other companies are now free to try to one-up ‘em, and Edge Tech looks to be among the first to take a crack at it. While it does away with some of the added security and ruggedness of Kingston’s offering, Edge Tech’s latest DiskGO drive does match that magic 128GB storage capacity, and you will still get a seemingly durable aluminum housing, along with some basic encryption software for a bit of extra protection.

Stefan Richter on His Memoir, His New Restaurant, and, of Course, the Ladies

Posted by bundeg magz Comments (0)

Jada Yuan caught up with Stefan Richter at another Le Tourment tasting, and in addition to discovering that he likes his absinthe with Diet Coke, she confirmed what we suspected — that he hasn’t made much progress on his memoir. Instead he’s been eating burgers and pig ears at the Spotted Pig (“best burgers ever!” “best pig ears I’ve had in twenty years!”), having dinner with Ariane at Minetta Tavern , hanging with Leah at Centro Vinoteca , and crossing the country with his fellow Top Chefs.
