Firefox 3.5 arrives

Posted by bundeg magz Comments (0)

After some rather impressive RC builds, Firefox 3.5 is all packaged up and ready for public consumption. Mozilla is saying its new browser is more than two times faster than Firefox 3, but what has us more excited is the support for plugin-free “open codec” video and audio playback using Ogg Vorbis and Ogg Theora– it’s still in its infancy, but the subtle glimpse we’ve seen so far of a world without Flash video reducing our CPU to jelly is rather compelling. Wii MotionPlus impressions: it works, but so far the games aren’t worth the fuss

Posted by bundeg magz Comments (0)

At first glance it’s a little difficult to understand the necessity of another motion-sensing add-on. What could possibly be inside this particular block of white plastic that’s not inside those other countless slabs of white plastic that Nintendo has already slathered on the Wii?

Just Another Day at Ray’s

Posted by bundeg magz Comments (0)

No one bothers interfering when some kids go around “committing acts of blunt violence” in the East Village, except that when they enter Ray’s Candy Store and get lewd with the counterperson, 76-year-old Ray wakes from his nap and douses them in water . That’ll school ’em.

Dell’s 12.1-inch Vostro 1220 gets official in Japan, packs few surprises

Posted by bundeg magz Comments (0)

We’d already come to grips with the fact that a Vostro 1220 was indeed on the way , and now Dell’s own Japanese branch has confirmed it. Over in the Land of the Rising Sun, the 12.1-inch business laptop has gone legit, bringing with it Intel processor options (a 2.20GHz Celeron or 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo, namely), 1GB or 2GB of RAM, a WXGA (1,200 x 800) glossy display, 4-cell battery (a 6-cell is available), WiFi, three USB 2. sockets, FireWire, gigabit Ethernet, VGA output, ExpressCard slot, a multicard reader and a 1.3 megapixel webcam

Chef Joe Doe Speaks Out About the New York Dining Circus

Posted by bundeg magz Comments (0)

Yesterday we were highly entertained, though not exactly surprised, to see JoeDoe ’s namesake chef-owner Joe Dobias lash out at Marc Shepherd for penning a review on his blog, NY Journal , that deemed the restaurant hard to take seriously: “Its quirky offerings often sound interesting, but when the plates arrive the payoff isn’t there.” In the comments, Dobias insisted the “malicious post” was revenge for the fact that Shepherd (whom Dobias went on to call “an angry little man” and a “hapless shameless little person,” even comparing him to George Costanza) hadn’t been allowed to take photos, and went on to share more opinions about “shithead bloggers” being “stuck up little kids” with “no training, no schooling, and probably as I always say no real life experience working in a restaurant.” Before JoeDoe opened his doors, we were probably the first outlet to get in touch with him, and have happily covered his experiments with Madoff menus , tongue-sandwich delivery , and of course its brunch battle with Prune; so we knew a little bit about his frustrations with PR and media coverage. So when his new PR intern e-mailed to tell us about a Fourth of July all-day rib roast (featuring specials such as pork ribs with pickled slaw, barbecue chicken with macaroni salad and summer greens, and crispy watermelon with Greek yogurt), we asked him for an on-the-record sit-down.

BlackBerry credited with saving skier’s life, serendipity left hanging

Posted by bundeg magz Comments (0)

Not that we haven’t heard a few miraculous gadgets-saving-lives stories before, but this one is in a league of its own. According to the always-embellishing Sun , one David Fitzherbert is thanking his smartphone after coming entirely too close to falling 700 feet to his death. As the story goes, he got wedged between a pair of rocks after losing control of his skis in the Matterhorn, and while we aren’t quite sure why he chose RIM’s BlackBerry over — say, chap-stick, car keys, his wallet or a fattening breakfast — he credited it with adding just enough width to his person to keep him wedged

Rick Astley Dead Story, Is It True?

Posted by bundeg magz Comments (0)

There is an report about Rick Astley, its says that Rick Astley is reported to be dead.

There’s a purported Associated Press release doing the rounds on the internet stating that Rick Astley is dead. The release is very well done, it’s in the house style, it looks real. However, it didn’t actually appear on the Associated Press wire itself. It’s only circulating second hand.

Now there is one difficulty, for usually it’s only actually news organizations themselves that will know what has appeared on the AP wire, it’s not something which is generally available to the public. So how do you know whether the story of Rick Astley’s death has indeed gone out over the wire or is in fact a fake ? Read more…

Inaccurate Michael Jackson Autopsy Report

Posted by bundeg magz Comments (0)

There was an inaccurate report about Michael Jackson autopsy report that said Michael was emaciated and almost bald when he died suddenly last week ( according British newspaper report ).

Jackson, who died June 25 after suffering cardiac arrest at the age 50, weighed just 112 pounds, was bald and badly disfigured at the time of his death, according to leaked results from an autopsy.

Britain’s The Sun obtained a copy of the report, which claimed Jackson’s face bore numerous scars as a result of 13 cosmetic operations. The bridge of Jackson’s nose had disappeared and the right side had caved in, according to the paper. Jackson also reportedly had unexplained bruises on his knees and shins and bruising to his back, indicating a recent fall. Read more…

Having the Palm Pre on Sprint might be good for Americans driving their pick ‘em up trucks down the CDMA data highway, but it doesn’t do Europeans (or Palm’s bottom line) any good over in the Old World. Now we’ve got video and images of a GSM-loving Palm Pre on the loose in Vietnam.

NVIDIA Tegra smartphone due from a "top five" manufacturer before 2010?

Posted by bundeg magz Comments (0)

If you want to get HD in your handheld, NVIDIA’s Tegra processor is the hot way to do it at the moment, and we’ve got reasonably concrete sounding rumors from disparate sources that a handset containing one of the chips is currently under development by a “top five” smartphone builder (we’re guessing it’s not Apple), and that it’ll be out sometime before the end of the year, selling at T-Mobile and AT&T for just $199. The details of the device beyond that are scant, with Android being a possibility but Windows Mobile looking more likely, and a continued pledge of battery life of rated for “days and days” of mobile multimedia. We like the sound of that.

The HTC Hero has made its first appearance on a UK carrier’s website, but finds itself burdened with a teasing “coming soon” badge. Having talked to Orange, we can confirm previous reports that the device will be available for free on some, as yet undetermined but surely eye-gouging, price plans. Posted by bundeg magz Comments (0)

It’s true, The Pirate Bay has agreed to being purchased by Global Gaming Factory (owner of a network of Internet cafes and gaming centers) for 60 million Swedish Krona or roughly $7.8 million. According to a press release, “GGF intends to launch new business models that allow compensation to the content providers and copyright owners.” In a post on TPB’s blog, the rogue file sharing site says that the project has been in the works for many years and should help evolve the site while trying to stay the same.

Sanyo’s Eneloop lamp heals your ecological soul
